The information given in the article whilst good was however incomplete as it was suggested that any lock with a British Kitemark number will stop a lock snapping attack.

This is not necessarily the case. Locks tested to the british kitemark prior to 2012 would not have been subjected to snapping tests and so may not offer the correct level of protection.

Please note that anti-snap does not mean snap secure.

Only locks that have gained a TS007:2013 3 star rating and/or the more robust SS312 Sold Secure Diamond grade have been tested to more modern known methods of attack such as lock snapping.

If the lock has a TS007 one star rating, additional 2 star rated handles are required. Manufacturers will recommend options to bring one star locks up to the standard for a 3 star rated solution. Always check the manufacturers website and literature for guideance and speak to your local locksmith.

The key standards to look for are as follows (ABS has passed and is accredited to All)The ABS lock is the highest accredited lock on the market and is proven to stop lock snapping attacks.

ABS creates a total barrier inside the lock case when attacked.

ABS has a unique patented system that prevents access into the lock case. ABS has been chosen by Leeds City Council as the only retro-fit euro cylinder to combat against lock snapping. 10,000 ABS locks have been installed in East Leeds in a police target hardening programme and this has successfully reduced repeat burglaries in the homes with upgraded ABS locks.
